It has warmed up and started to thaw all that snow. Which means the phone line to my house is wet. Which means there is some static on my line. Just enough that it affects my ability to connect clearly on-line. Without a clear connection I only get a fraction of the BPS I need to surf. Can you spell S........L........O........W?
The problem is the phone company frowns on spending money to upgrade it's equipment, so they won't dig to replace the underground portion that has the crack in it. It could even be the overhead wires, I don't know, when the static gets bad, they just shrug and say it's my wire. From the junction box into the house it is, but that's not where the problem lies.
Should ice fall, and shear off their wires, they will come and reconnect you, but upgrade their equipment? Not a chance. There's also a crack in their tower, and the cover won't stay on. Without the cover, it gets wet, creates static on the line, somehow that's not their problem. I have been waiting for DSL to be available, and now Hubby is balking at switching.
Some one of his buddies told him hackers would get into the computer with DSL. We have some of his business files on our computer. He doesn't want them compromised or that information stolen. Can't blame him there, but that sticks me with dial-up and an uncooperative phone company. Oh well, someone of my age shouldn't be trying to move all that fast anyway, and unfortunately, getting stuck with dial-up is NOT grounds for divorce.
